Ad Sizes and Digital File Guidelines
All sizes are given width by height.
Safety margin: Keep all live matter at least .25" from magazine edges on full bleed ads.

Any ads that are smaller than the specified dimensions will be borderd with a 1pt rule. There can be no "floating ads" on the page nor continuous white space. All ads must be contained, either with color stretching to the edges or a rule line around them. This does not apply to full bleed/ full page ads.
DIGITAL FILE SUBMISSION METHODS:
Files can be submitted on zip disk, CD, by email (if less than 10M) or uploaded to an ftp site. Color proofs must accompany all work.

FILE FORMATS:
Only these file formats will be accepted:
Quark 4.1 or Quark 6, TIFF or EPS, Photoshop 7.0 or earlier, Adobe Illustrator 10 or earlier or PDFs (See section below for PDF requirements.)
We cannot currently us Creative Suite native files. Creative Suite files should be saved as PDF files or files compatible with Illustrator 10/ Photoshop 7.
Files created in Corel Draw, even when converted to EPS or PDF, cannot be guaranteed to print well by our printer. We strongly recommend you do not use this software to create your files.
Files must be at least 300dpi.
All files must be Mac compatible.
Fonts: Any fonts that are not rasterized, changed to outlines or embedded must be submitted with your ad files.These must be Mac PostScript fonts with both screen and print files included. PC and True Type fonts are not acceptable.
COLOR:
All files and all elements within files must be in CMYK. Any files submitted in RGB, or with RGB elements, will be automatically converted to CMYK and color shifts may occur.

Type: All black type should be in one color black, not four color black. We cannot guarantee the crispness of 4-color black type.
Recommended Rich Black formula for fill: 40C/30M/30Y/100K
Gradients: Gradients should be created using CMYK colors only. If created in RGB, banding can occur.
Gradients should also contain at least 2% of a color; gradients going from white or "none" have variable results when printed in CMYK
Duotones: Duotones should be created using CMYK colors to avoid color shifts.
PDFS
ONLY PDF'S THAT ARE CREATED BY MAKING A POSTSCRIPT FILE AND THEN ARE DISTILLED AT OUR PRINTER'S SETTINGS
THROUGH ADOBE ACROBAT DISTILLER ARE ACCEPTABLE. While many software applications have the option of "Make PDF," files created this way are subject to problems. For questions about making PostScript files and how to set your Distiller to the correct settings, go to the link below:
