A colorful printed and online map featuring Mill Valley merchants is now available online and interactive, encouraging residents to shop locally. The online map depicts a bird’s eye view of downtown Mill Valley streets and buildings, with numbered links to 44 individual businesses. Rolling a cursor over a listing or a number on the map brings up an image of the business, its address and phone number. A click then brings up its website. Additional links are available by clicking on “links” at the top of the page.
The back of the printed version of the map shows a listing of the businesses by category, with a brief description of each.
The idea for the map came from Bob of the Two Neat card shop and Mill Valley resident Sylvia (Chipps) Barsky, who visited all the downtown merchants and gathered the listed sponsors. The map was originally launched in printed form during the winter holiday season, to encourage residents to do their holiday shopping locally.
The map was drawn by Scott Metzger, a Marin cartoonist who creates single panel cartoons for greeting cards and other projects. It was printed by Dave Semling of Mill Valley Services, a local printer.
