I’ve started to compost. Of course, the compost bucket gets pretty disgusting, but since I make my son take it out, I don’t worry about it! I already recycle glass, plastic, cans, paper and cardboard—it makes me feel better about not putting so much stuff into the landfills. I’m saving the planet one eggshell at a time!

I drive with the info center in my car set to the instant MPG display. This way, I can adjust my driving as I go, and I’ve gained an extra couple of miles per gallon of gas in my long commute. Cruise control is great on mostly flat sections, but where there are rises and falls, managing the MPG this way saves quite a bit of gas.

In the last year, we started an organic garden adjacent to our studio, and most business lunches, here or on location, include our own fruits and veggies, even in winter when our lettuce, broccoli and chard grows and grows. Tastes great and saves money and resources!

I repurpose things. So much of what we buy is packaging, it’s great to find other uses for it. I used cereal boxes to package holiday presents; oatmeal containers can be relabeled and used to store rice, beans and other grains; and, most fun, I reuse glass spice jars for jewelry, buttons, nails—just about everything. Almost any premade container from the store can be imagined as something else.

We started using our rabbit’s droppings as fertilizer for our home vegetable garden and periodically saving the office’s used coffee grinds and filters in the garden.

I’ve started recycling paper products into a compost pile—newspaper, shredded documents, grocery bags, paper towels, toilet paper rolls, cardboard and such. Also, hanging laundry out on a clothesline rather than using a gas dryer, and turning the thermostat down to 61 degrees at bedtime.
Sherie DeHaven, Certified Employment Group
I compost everything that can possibly be composted.
