“Everything we do is designed with our members and their guests in mind.” —Don Floriani
Winning Best Golf Course for the fourth straight year, according to GM/COO Don Floriani, happened because Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club (SRGCC) keeps its course in top condition, and the staff creates a friendly and memorable experience. “Our members are proud of their club and show it with their votes,” he says.
SRGCC is a true reflection of the natural beauty of Sonoma Wine Country. Its practice facilities include a driving range, two putting greens and a full, 100-yard practice hole complete with bunkers. SRGCC also has beautifully appointed men’s and women’s locker rooms, a swimming pool and tennis courts. The fitness room contains state-of-the-art Cybex Eagle series equipment.
“The members determine what they want the club to be,” explains Floriani. “We send an annual survey to all our members, and we take their input very seriously.”
That’s not an overstatement. SRGCC is a member-owned club, meaning its 360 proprietary members elect a nine-member board of directors who work with Floriani to determine the long-range strategy for maintaining and growing the club. The board is supported by member committees, which focus on everything from course maintenance to food and beverage offerings, marketing and new-member outreach. In addition to these owner/members, SRGCC also welcomes a variety of other membership levels, including social (with access to events, dining facilities and the pool only), athletic (add the fitness center and limited golf), junior (for kids) and young executive (for ages 21 to 38). The course is also used by the Piner and Analy high school teams and Sonoma State University for its Annual Invitational.
According to Floriani, “Our members are our owners. Everything we do is designed with our members and their guests in mind. We look for every reason to say, ‘Yes.’” SRGCC offers golf, swim and tennis lessons with professional instructors along with a fitness studio and classes.
One unique aspect of SRGCC is that members and guests can play a full round of golf in four hours as opposed to a more typical five-hour round found at most public courses. Plus, every other tee time is held open for walk-on play, so members seldom need to wait to play.
And although it’s a private club, Floriani wants people to know it’s open to the public for weddings, banquets and events at a competitive price. Because it’s a private facility, people may think having an event there is expensive, but Floriani invites people to take a tour, after which they’ll sit down and talk about how they can provide a special event at an outstanding value. “We’re a lot more competitive than most people recognize,” he says.
SRGCC prides itself on providing the best possible food for guests. All the food is made onsite, which means it makes it fresh to the table; all meats are of the highest quality, the produce used is purchased locally and the deserts have received many gold medals from the Sonoma County Harvest Fair.
“We want our members, guests and those who host events here to walk away feeling they’re special,” adds Floriani.
From intimate to extravagant, traditional to unexpected, SRGCC is dedicated to creating a unique, unforgettable experience. Its new online event request form helps clients plan their events, and the club’s professional team takes care of all the details to ensure a stress-free and enjoyable event for all.
