CCNB Receives Grant to Help with Rebuild Efforts
Conservation Corps North Bay (CCNB) was awarded a $500,000 grant from the Tipping Point Community Emergency Relief Fund to train its corpsmembers in the building trades, giving them skills and certifications needed to secure employment to help rebuild North Bay communities ravaged by the wildfires.
The grant will fund CCNB’s pre-apprenticeship training and certification program, giving youth the opportunity to acquire living wage jobs in the skilled trades while contributing to rebuilding efforts. CCNB will enhance its current certifications and add new trades-focused certifications to its training curriculum, preparing its corpsmembers how to be sought-after employees. Through expanded partnerships, CCNB will also increase corpsmembers’ accessibility to employment opportunities within the building trades.
Current projects include: the construction of nature-based wave attenuators to mitigate impacts of climate change through a partnership with the State Coastal Conservancy; a long-term habitat restoration project on Copeland Creek in Rohnert Park; flood mitigation projects in numerous locations throughout Marin and Sonoma counties; and litter abatement and invasive species removal with Caltrans.
Founded in 1982 as the nation’s first local conservation corps, CCNB has helped more than 12,000 young men and women break the cycle of poverty through education and job skills, while serving the environment and community. The organization provides year-round education, workforce training and wrap-around services such as counseling, career guidance and other self-management skills to 200 young adults ages 18 to 30 from some of the Bay Area’s most underserved North Bay communities.
