MarinHealth Pushes Through Pandemic Under New Leadership

David Klein, M.D., was named the CEO of MarinHealth late 2020, and looks to lead the medical center through the turbulent times the pandemic has brought upon the medical field.

A resident of Marin, Klein’s highest priorities for MarinHealth are maintaining safety, creating an outstanding patient-centric experience and producing excellent outcomes. “I could not be more excited about this role and the opportunity to contribute to the organization’s stellar reputation for high-quality, safe, innovative and patient-centered care,” said Klein in a prepared statement. “My predecessor, Lee Domanico, truly set the benchmark for excellence in healthcare, and I intend to build upon the incredible legacy he has given to the community of Marin and the Bay Area at large. I also look forward to working closely with the exceptional and extremely dedicated team of professionals at MarinHealth—especially during these unprecedented times—to ensure that we continue to uphold the great values and traditions that have made us the Healing Place for our community.”

Domanico took the helm of MarinHealth in 2010 and led the hospital through its rocky transition from management by Sutter Health.

One of Klein’s first moves as CEO was to create MarinHealth’s first urgent care clinic in March. “Opening MarinHealth Urgent Care provides another access point for care with convenient, extended hours to serve patients from 3-plus months of age to adults,” said Klein.

SSU’s Judy Sakaki: An Appointment for Equity

Sonoma State President, Judy K. Sakaki, a member of California’s Recovery with Equity Taskforce, took part in compiling the group’s recent report, titled “Recovery with Equity: A Roadmap for Higher Education After the Pandemic.” Sakaki was appointed to the task force by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

The document examines the inequalities in the post-secondary education system, brought on, in part, by wealth gaps that the pandemic has amplified. “Serving in this capacity helped me think about how we at Sonoma State can approach our reopening with clear, equitable goals in our policies, practices, and strategies,” said Sakaki, in a prepared statement. “It was an honor to serve.”

Some of the concerns addressed in the report include re-engaging students who had to sideline their education and addressing realities that students and institutions must face moving forward. The Recovery with Equity Taskforce was established in August of last year by Newsom’s senior policy advisor for higher education, Lande Ajose, Ph.D., with consultation with the Governor’s Council for Post-Secondary Education.
