Sonoma Valley Community Health Center, Sonoma Valley Hospital, and La Luz Center are working in partnership with the County of Sonoma to open a new vaccination clinic serving residents in and around the Boyes Hot Springs and Agua Caliente in Sonoma Valley.
The clinic at La Luz Center, located at 17560 Greger St. near Sonoma Highway, will serve the Sonoma Valley community’s large Latinx population, a group that has been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. Sonoma Valley Community Health and Sonoma Valley Hospital have been key partners in Sonoma County’s vaccination effort, with both administering more than 7,000 doses to date.
“This is an exciting project to see if we can get more people vaccinated if we come to them – to where they live,” said Cheryl Johnson, CEO of Sonoma Valley Community Health Center. “La Luz was gracious to provide this beautiful and peaceful venue for this clinic. We are thrilled to be offering this service as part of the Sonoma Valley Partnership, which includes Sonoma Valley Hospital.”
The La Luz clinic will serve a key demographic in Sonoma County’s equity strategy. Latinos make up 27 percent of the County’s population but have experienced two-thirds of all of COVID cases the County has recorded during the pandemic. So far, just 18 percent of residents who have received the vaccine have identified themselves as Latino.
The clinic will operate from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and will focus on serving those who live in the surrounding area. The clinic also will operate on Sundays starting on Sunday, April 25. Vaccinations will be by appointment only for neighboring residents and members of the Latinx community. The clinic will be able to administer 200 doses a day of Pfizer or Moderna vaccines. For information about how to make an appointment, residents are invited to call La Luz at 707-938-5131.
Community health workers also will be doing outreach in the area, which will include going door to door in apartment complexes, to make sure local residents are aware of the clinic and have the opportunity to register.
“Equity remains a crucial goal and mission in Sonoma County as we work toward ending the pandemic,” said First District Supervisor Susan Gorin, who represents the Sonoma Valley on the Board of Supervisors. “The Latinx community has suffered disproportionately during the past year. A targeted clinic at La Luz in the Springs area with our trusted partners will allow them to deliver much needed vaccines directly to this community.”
La Luz Center is a Sonoma Valley nonprofit that works to strengthen community through family services, economic advancement and community engagement.
Sonoma Valley Community Health Center is a non-profit, federally qualified health center that opened in 1992 as a free-standing primary health care clinic. SVCHC began as a grassroots effort to address the lack of access and disparities of health care for the uninsured and underserved in Sonoma Valley.
Sonoma Valley Hospital is a full-service acute care district hospital located in the city of Sonoma, providing compassionate expert care to the 42,000 residents of the Sonoma Valley Health Care District. The Hospital has 24 acute care beds and maintains a 27-bed Skilled Nursing Facility.
