Historic Healdsburg Hotel Undergoing Significant Remodel
The Madrona Manor Inn, a historic stalwart landmark of Healdsburg and Sonoma County, is going under a sizeable remodel under a new ownership group. Interior designer and longtime Wine Country resident Jay Jeffers and his brother, Kyle, along with other supporting partners with significant ties to the community, lead the group. They purchased the hotel for approximately $8.6 million from Bill and Trudi Konrad in February.
“It spoke to me from the second I drove up the hill,” Jay Jeffers said in a prepared statement. “I thought, what is this gem of a place?”

The inn is 22 suites across six buildings on eight acres, with the mansion itself standing as the complex’s nucleus. Jeffers operates a design firm in San Francisco that works mainly in redesigning homes and bars. This will be his first venture in a “top-to-bottom” remodel of a hotel. His redesign will modernize some elements of the hotel, renovating and renaming the cocktail lounge Hannah’s Bar and adding a Peloton-equipped fitness studio. Most will feature cosmetic changes, including updating the furniture and the bathrooms.
The Mosaic Hotel Group will manage The Madrona Manor Inn. The group manages a collection of individually branded hotels; all with fewer than 80 rooms each. North Block Hotel in Yountville, El Dorado Hotel & Kitchen in Sonoma and Olema House in Point Reyes are some of the hotels the group manages. Tourists and visitors can still make a reservation and stay at the hotel during the construction process. Limited rooms are available due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Coppola Completes Renovation of Inglenook Pennino Salon
Francis Ford Coppola, proprietor of Inglenook, announced the completion of a major renovation of the historic winery’s Pennino Salon in March. The Pennino Salon, named after Coppola’s maternal grandfather, Francesco Pennino, is open for wine tastings as conditions allow.
“We have enjoyed hosting outdoor tastings at Inglenook, but we’re really looking forward to welcoming guests to The Pennino Salon as soon as COVID-related conditions allow,” said Estate President Catherine Durand in a prepared statement. “The new Pennino Salon is gorgeous and such an intriguing retreat. It’s the perfect setting for savoring Inglenook wines, while enjoying the ambiance created by timeless jazz and the rich surroundings of the historic chateau, enhanced by memorable artwork.”

Gustave Niebaum founded inglenook in 1879. In redesigning The Pennino Salon, Coppola worked with his longtime friend and colleague, Dean Tavoularis, to create a stunning setting, reminiscent of a private club in the 1920s. Tavoularis was the production designer on many of Coppola’s films. The room includes a variety of beguiling details, including personal mementos, which include works of art by Wayne Thiebaud; film director Akira Kurosawa; Robert De Niro, Sr.; and Coppola himself. A turntable spins select jazz albums from the Verve Records collection. Patrons can also play their own tunes on a piano positioned in a corner, or sit down to play a game of chess or backgammon.

“When we entertain at home, this is how we entertain,” said Coppola in a prepared statement. “The Pennino Salon is an extension of our home, and we welcome guests to enjoy our expansive library, art and jazz collections, and games of chance. We wanted to create a richer experience for guests as they enjoy our Inglenook wines.”
As indoor tastings are allowed, The Pennnino Salon is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday through Sunday. Guests enjoy seated tastings ranging from $125 to $150 per person and include a wine educator, library wines, cheese, charcuterie and thoughtful pairings created by estate chef Alex Lovick.
