The top priority for the Marin County Elections Department in the next few weeks is to identify local polling places and workers for the California Gubernatorial Recall Election that was set for September 14.
“We typically start recruiting for locations months in advance, so we are in an urgent situation and really need our usual Election Day locations to work with us,” said Registrar of Voters Lynda Roberts.
Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis signed a proclamation July 1 ordering the election to decide if Governor Gavin Newsom should remain in office. The recall will be the only issue on the ballot.
County Elections staff started calling potential polling locations the day after the election was called and will continue reaching out over the next two weeks, Roberts said. Venues don’t need to wait for a call or letter of request; representatives from possible polling locations may contact Colleen Ksanda by calling (415) 473-6439 to notify the department of their availability.
Like during the November 2020 election, all Marin registered voters will be mailed a ballot starting 29 days before the election. Traditional polling places will be open on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Ballot drop boxes will be available at the Marin County Civic Center, 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael.
The Elections Department is in Suite 121 of the Civic Center. Weekday office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
