The Bed Bath & Beyond on Santa Rosa Avenue is the home-goods chain's lone remaining location in the North Bay.

North Bay residents will have to look elsewhere for matching sheets and fluffy towels—Bed Bath & Beyond filed for bankruptcy protection this week, and will begin the process of winding down operations at its remaining retail outlets.

The 52-year-old company has suffered years of declining sales. Currently, the home-goods retailer has 360 stores and 120 Buy Buy Baby locations. Its remaining North Bay location is at 2785 Santa Rosa Ave. in Santa Rosa. BBB shuttered its Marin Country Mart location in Larkspur last fall. Locations in Vallejo and Vacaville had closed in recent years as well.

The New Jersey-based company plans to close its remaining retail outlets by June 30, according to its bankruptcy filing.

In its reporting on the bankruptcy, the New York Times said revenues for Bed Bath & Beyond have been shrinking for years—losing digital sales to Target and Walmart, while stumbling with new initiatives like scaling back coupons and launching poorly received store brands.

The pandemic only served to accelerate the demise of the chain, with crippling store closures and supply chain woes from which the company couldn’t recover.
