Santa Rosa Golf and Country Club has been voted best golf course many times by biz readers, and club General Manager Dennis Stankovic says it feels good to be continually recognized as one of the best golf courses in Marin, Napa and Sonoma. Stankovic moved to Sonoma County two years ago from Southern California and likes that Santa Rosa Golf and Country Club continues to build upon its past successes as a winner.
“The members here are some of the most wonderful people I’ve ever met,” says Stankovic when asked about some of the reasons why he believes the club is exemplary. He says that this members golf course, located at 333 Country Club Drive, is a great one—the kind you can play everyday and have a terrific round each time. Every time you play, you have the opportunity to shoot your best score because the course is kept in pristine condition. Stankovic credits the hard-working maintenance crew with keeping the course in tip-top shape, guaranteeing excellent fairways and greens. It’s a fun course and very walkable, with slight elevation changes that give players a chance to get some exercise in while enjoying a round of golf. The 18-hole course has five sets of tees that provide players with the choice of where to tee off from, depending on their skill level, from beginner to very accomplished.
Santa Rosa Golf and Country Club is very excited about their pickleball program, having recently converted their two tennis courts into six pickleball courts. Having six courts means they will be able to participate in leagues and tournaments and can host pickleball events throughout the year. Pickleball has become very popular—and even some of their more golf-centric members are working the sport into their days at the club. In addition to 18 holes of golf, pickleball courts, a pool, fitness facilities, event rooms, tournament planning and other amenities, a new executive chef joined the team in November. Shawn Murphy brings the Appellation Grill to fresh heights by procuring locally sourced ingredients (mostly from Sonoma and Napa counties) which he uses to create even more variety on the menu, including more plant-based choices.
Each year the club hosts a number of charity tournaments and raised over $150,000 in 2022 for local organizations. This coming year they hope to surpass that dollar amount. Santa Rosa Golf and Country Club is a members-only club, but non members can rent the beautiful facility for functions such as parties, receptions and corporate events.
