With the groundbreaking of the planned expansion of the Graton Resort & Casino near Rohnert Park taking place this month, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors on June 6 updated its agreement with the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, which operates the casino. As part of the ongoing agreement, the resort will continue to pay the county $14.5 million annually to cover costs for public safety, GHG emissions, groundwater, traffic and emergency services, among other impacts.

The casino’s planned expansion—slated to begin this summer—includes designing a 28,000-square-foot rooftop restaurant, building a new six-story hotel section with 221 rooms and a pool, constructing a 3,500-seat theater and a new five-level parking facility. The casino also plans to add 3,000 slot machines, doubling its original amount. Graton Resort and Casino opened on the FIGR 254-acre reservation in 2013. It remains the largest casino in the Bay Area.
