Gabriella Calicchio will step down from her role as the County of Marin’s director of cultural services—a position she held for 11 years. Calicchio will now serve as the fifth executive director of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
She started with the Department of Cultural Services in 2014 and served as the founding executive director of the Marin Cultural Association since 2015. A nationwide recruitment effort for a new director of the Department of Cultural Services and Marin Cultural Association will be underway in conjunction with Calicchio’s departure.
County Parks director takes on role in East Bay
Director of Marin County Parks, Max Korten, announced his departure because beginning in October he will take on a new role as deputy general manager for the East Bay Regional Park District.
Prior to starting with the County of Marin, Korten worked with the Conservation Corps North Bay, the U.S. Forest Service and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. He eventually started in Marin as a parks superintendent in 2014 and has led the department since 2016. A nationwide search will begin in order to fill the open director position.
Nate Weis to receive wine business leadership award
Weis grew up locally and joined the Silver Oak team in 2014—following in his dad’s winemaker boots. He also worked at wineries both in California and New Zealand. Weis has been an adjunct faculty at Napa Valley College since 2018. He has been a board member of the Wine Business Institute since 2022, a former board member of the Northwest Chapter of the American Red Cross and a member of the Unified Grape & Wine Symposium Program Development Committee since 2018.
