Dr. Karen Smith

Smith named Sonoma County interim health officer 

Dr. Karen Smith has been appointed Sonoma County’s interim health officer, a position she previously held from August to November in 2023. Prior to that, Smith served four years as director of the California Department of Public Health and state health officer.

According to a press release from the County of Sonoma, health officers are granted authority from the state to declare public health emergencies, issue health orders and impose penalties for noncompliance.

Sara Taeb is a senior human capital management consultant for Coastal Payroll, and she has recently stepped into the role of lead consultant for the Marin County region. Taeb’s position involves advising business owners by providing knowledge and direction for workforce management solutions.

Patricia Harvey

Patricia Harvey has recently joined the Coastal Payroll team as a client support specialist. Harvey has 24 years of experience in client service from her previous employer, Accuchex.

California-based provider Coastal Payroll specializes in human capital management. With a local office in Mill Valley, the workforce management company serves clients across Marin County and beyond.

 

 

Olvera named Marin County Fair manager

The theme for the 2025 Marin County Fair has been announced and it will be “Bug-tastic.” There will also be a new Marin County Fair manager: Jennifer Olvera. Previously serving as the event rental manager for the Department of Cultural Services, Olvera will now lead in the planning and preparation of the annual county fair.

According to a County of Marin press release, her duties include organizing and executing the competitive exhibits program as well as overseeing the staging of the agriculture barnyard, the Global Marketplace, food services and more. For more information visit marinfair.org.

Felicia Smith

Sonoma Clean Power’s new division and leadership promotions 

Sonoma Clean Power (SCP), the public power provider for Sonoma and Mendocino counties, announced the formation of a new division focused on capital projects and engineering. Felicia Smith has been promoted to director of programs, succeeding Rebecca Simonson, who will now lead the new Capital Projects and Engineering division as director.

Smith, formerly a senior program manager for SCP, now oversees the agency’s customer-facing energy solutions that support energy efficiency, electrical vehicle adoption and other efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Simonson will lead SCP’s capital construction projects while also building an engineering team. Simonson’s leadership will be essential as SCP expands its capital investments in buildings, energy production facilities, microgrids and electrical energy storage.

Kim Martinez

Kim Martinez joins ASMG as market manager

Kim Martinez, a former digital sales director for Audacy broadcasting company, has been tapped by Santa Rosa-based media company Amaturo Sonoma Media Group as market manager for its portfolio of nine radio stations, Waterdrop Digital Marketing, Country Summer music festival and NorthBay biz magazine.

Martinez comes to ASMG from her most recent position as senior vice president at audacy.com in Portland, Oregon, where she was responsible for managing a portfolio of seven radio stations and sports partnerships with the Oregon Ducks and Seattle Seahawks. In her new position, Martinez will “lead ASMG’s growth and further strengthen its presence in Sonoma County,” according to the announcement.
