Medlock Ames, the Healdsburg winery known as an early adopter of regenerative farming practices, is putting its operation and 342-acre Bell Mountain Ranch property on sale for $44 million.

The Alexander Valley and Russian River AVA brand was founded by Ames Morison and Chris Medlock James in 1998—the college friends wanted to produce Bordeaux-quality wines with California grapes. They also intended to practice “light touch” organic farming as part of a commitment to sustainability.

In the wake of the 2019 Kincade Fire, which damaged the Bell Mountain vineyards, they turned to regenerative farming—agriculture with eye toward biodiversity, animal integration, cover crops and soil conservation. In 2022, the winery was the first in Sonoma County to be Regenerative Organic Certified.

In addition to Bell Mountain Ranch, the purchase price includes the brand’s wine inventory, a trio of homes, the winery, two tasting rooms, the vineyard and equipment. Check out the listing here.
