Katie Davis is public affairs manager for Pacific Gas and Electric Company for San Francisco, Marin, Napa, Sonoma, Lake, Mendocino and Humboldt counties. Davis began her career at PG&E in 2008 as a public affairs representative. “I was always interested in the energy industry and in particular working for PG&E because of the advancements in green energy, as well as the vital services PG&E provides. People often spend their entire careers there. I wanted to be part of that culture.”
She has also served as a program manager in PG&E’s government and community partnerships department, helping local governments implement energy efficiency and sustainability programs.
She currently serves as board president for the Sonoma County Alliance, as a political action committee board member for the Marin Builder’s Association and as an alternate director for the North Bay Leadership Council. Before joining PG&E, Davis worked in political and land use consulting in the North Bay. She now lives in Larkfield.
Are you a North Bay native?
I am! I was born at Petaluma Valley Hospital and raised in Petaluma, so I’m a true Petaluman.
Are you married?
I have an amazing husband, John. We’ve been married for six-and-a-half years, have two wonderful daughters and two crazy little dogs.
Did you go to college?
I went to UC Davis and double majored in communications and Spanish.
What do you love to do outside of work?
I love to lift weights with my husband, hike, read, crochet, knit and sew.
As a child, what was your idea of fun?
I loved playing sports—soccer, basketball, softball, tennis, street hockey with the neighborhood kids; pretty much everything.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I absolutely love Sonoma County, but if I couldn’t live here, I would love to live in Spain. I studied abroad my senior year of college in Granada and loved the culture and the lifestyle.
Who or what inspires you to be all that you can be?
I’m lucky enough to have many people who inspire me. In my personal life, my parents have always been role models in selflessness and community service. My husband does an amazing job caring for our daughters and is my biggest cheerleader. My daughters inspire me to be a good, strong role model. At work, Geisha Williams, our new CEO, inspires us all to dream big, overcome adversity and break glass ceilings.
What was the greatest day of your life?
I’ve had three days that stand out above the rest—the day I married my husband and the days my daughters were born.
What poem or song moves you? Share a line from it.
A favorite poem of mine since high school is “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost: ‘Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.’
If you had the ability to compete in the Olympics, what event would you want to be in?
Shot put. My husband went to the world championships for shot put, and was an alternate for the Olympics as well. He could train me!
If you could develop something that’s not been invented yet, what would you invent?
When I figure it out, you’ll see me on Shark Tank.
What is one of your favorite souvenirs brought back from your travels?
We have a painting I brought back from Spain hanging in our living room.
If you had to give some advice to all parents, what would you say?
Don’t worry so much about perfection. You don’t want your kids to only remember that you wanted to get handmade crafts or an elaborate cake just right—they’ll remember how you made them feel.
Who’s the smartest person you know?
My husband—he knows all the things I don’t.
What real person, dead or alive, do you wish you could be more like?
My mom. She’s one of the most selfless people I know.
What’s the secret to a long life?
Laughter. If you can find the humor and the good in things, you can get through anything.
