RCU-1: Redwood Credit Union hosted its annual Day of Impact on Oct. 9.
RCU-2: The North Bay-based credit union partnered with Specialized, one of the largest mountain bike manufacturers in the U.S., to build more than 400 bikes for the children in the North Bay.
RCU-3: Nearly 850 team members from various RCU branches met at the Sonoma County Event Center at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds to help build the bikes, according to an announcement from RCU.
RCU-4: The bikes will be distributed to kids through the program's various nonprofit youth-serving partners; each child bike recipient will also receive a helmet and lock for their new bikes.
RCU-5: The goal of the program, say RCU officials, is to foster the well-being of local youth, connect them with the outdoors and give them a means of transportation by building and distributing the bicycles.
RCU-6: The credit union paid its employees to participate in the event because Oct. 9 was a federal holiday, Indigenous People's Day, and most financial institutions are closed.
RCU-7: After the bikes were assembled by RCU employees, they were then delivered to the nonprofits by Trope Group.
RCU-8: RCU partnered with a total of 11 nonprofits.
RCU-9: More than 400 bikes were assembled for children of the North Bay.
