“Golf can be intimidating for many and we want everyone to walk away having a positive experience and a passion to return.” – Bill Carson, director of operations

As the North Bay begins to open up, residents are slowly leaving their homes for outdoor recreation; and what better place to spend a hot summer day than the winner of this year’s best golf course, Windsor Golf Club.

The course is full of lush green rolling hills lined with trees and ponds. Its design creates a unique experience, never repeating the same style and approach. Each hole on the course is its own puzzle as they vary with placements of fairway bunkers, water sources and alternating use of playing uphill and downhill all while the course doglegs left and right.

“It’s designed to reward good ball striking and to penalize mistakes. The greens are small and if you miss your approach shot, getting up and down can prove difficult,” says Bill Carson, director of operations at Windsor Golf Club. “But, the various tee boxes make it playable for all levels of players. Not many forced carries and its length makes it fun for any level of play.”

That’s not to say this course doesn’t offer a challenge for more experienced golfers. While forgiving in terms of tee boxes, both the No. 2 and No. 7 holes were ranked among the 10 hardest holes of the Nike tour. But, the challenge of getting past hole No. 7 is worth the view on the ensuing hole. Teeing off high on a hill, Mount Saint Helena in sight, with a lake resting to the right creates an elegant vista fit for Wine Country golfing.

“We value a comfortable experience for our guests,” says Carson. “Guests come to the course to have fun and enjoy themselves. Our job is to make sure they have an enjoyable experience, this is true for both beginners and seasoned golfers. Golf can be intimidating for many and we want everyone to walk away having a positive experience and a passion to return.”

The Windsor Golf Club offers more than rounds of golf. With a luscious landscape, it is also a perfect backdrop for a wedding ceremony. The club provides delicious and innovative in-house catering with both indoor and outdoor services to create a truly unforgettable experience.

“Every employee is responsible for doing what they can to assist the guests and make them feel welcome,” says Carson. “If we can accommodate the guest, we will do whatever it takes to make this happen. All employees can make decisions and help make the experience pleasurable.”

And what golf course is complete without food? Charlie’s Restaurant is the perfect place to dine after working up an appetite after a round of golf. Now open for indoor and outdoor dining, anyone can enjoy their locally famous steaks, seafood, pasta and entree salads while continuing to admire the scenery they’ve been immersed in. Get a Clue Productions even hosts a Murder Mystery Dinner at Charlie’s on select Fridays and Saturdays to keep the festivities going into the evening.

The Windsor Golf Club is a classic golf course, with no neighboring homes and suburban complexes cluttering the environment. A round of golf and a meal at Charlie’s is a perfect pairing, no matter the season, at this year’s Best Of winner for the best golf course in the area.
