The Sonoma County Housing Authority will accept applications from Oct. 1 until Nov. 1, 2021, for its Housing Choice Voucher waitlist lottery.
The Housing Choice Voucher program – formerly known as the Section 8 program – provides financial assistance to very low-income individuals and families to enable them to afford housing in the private rental housing market. You can verify if you are income-eligible by visiting Sonoma County Housing Authority Page.
Seven hundred and fifty applicants will be randomly selected, screened for eligibility, and notified in early December that they have a place on the new waitlist. Those who are not selected this time will be notified and are welcome to reapply when the waitlist reopens in approximately 24 months.
Applications are due Monday, Nov. 1, by 5 p.m. if submitted in person at the Housing Authority’s offices, or by 11:59 p.m. if submitted online.
Applications can be completed online at www.waitlistcheck.com/CA085 or in person at the Housing Authority’s offices located at 1440 Guerneville Road in Santa Rosa. Office hours are from Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Housing Authority reminds the public that fees-for-service or credit card numbers are never collected when applying to Housing Choice Voucher or Project-Based Voucher Waitlists. It is not uncommon for scammers to create fraudulent websites that look authentic: their names may say “Section 8” and they might show an Equal Housing Opportunity logo. Such sites will take the applicant’s money and sell their personal information.
