The County of Sonoma’s Climate Action and Resiliency Division is set to host an Induction Cooking Expo in Santa Rosa on Saturday, Sept. 24 to highlight the environmental benefits of using electromagnetism to heat pots and pans. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Premiere Bath and Kitchen located at 3201 Cleveland Ave.
Some of the commonly cited advantages of induction cooking include:
- Speed. The heat is generated directly in the pan through electromagnets, rather than being transferred by flames or an electric burner.
- Energy efficiency. Induction cooktops tend to be more energy efficient than gas or electric. Gas flames release heat around the pan, and electric burners radiate heat anywhere they’re not in direct contact.
- Safety. No open flames means a safer environment. No gas means no gas leaks, and induction stoves also cool quickly.
Climate Action and Resiliency Division staff will be joined by Chef Rachelle Boucher, founder of Kitchens to Life and an electric kitchen expert. Chef Boucher will be conducting an all-ages induction cooking experience. A chocolate-dipping dessert bar activity will give participants the opportunity to learn about the wonders of induction cooking while trying it out. Children are welcome when accompanied by an adult with a maximum of two children per adult.
The expo also will include live demonstrations, mini workshops on converting to electric cooking, information on local incentives, rebates, and financing along with snacks and refreshments. Attendees can enter a drawing to win a full set of induction cookware (valued at $200 – no cash equivalent).

The Climate Action and Resiliency Division was created within the County Administrator’s Office in fall 2021. The division is dedicated to helping the county address the climate crisis and achieve its climate-related goals and objectives. The Energy and Sustainability Division, formerly under the direction of the General Services Department, was recently merged with the Climate Action and Resiliency Division and continues to provide a one-stop shop for residential and commercial property owners who are interested in making energy, water, wildfire safety and seismic upgrades.
