Sonoma County Registrar of Voters (ROV) Deva Marie Proto is alerting Sonoma County voters who participated in the November 2022 General Election and were notified that their ballots were challenged due to missing or mismatched signatures that their ballots will likely not be counted unless the ROV Office receives the appropriate signature “cure” forms by 5 p.m. Pacific Time (PT) on November 30.
Every election, ROV staff spend hundreds of hours comparing each Vote-by-Mail ballot signature to the signature(s) for that person contained in the voter file. Voters whose ballot envelopes are missing a signature or have a signature that is deemed to not sufficiently compare to the signatures on file are mailed signature “cure” forms which, if signed and returned by the voter and timely received by the ROV Office, allow the ballots to still be counted and included in the final official certified election results. Voters were mailed letters from the ROV Office as their ballots were received and signature checked.
Voters with a missing or challenged signature who cannot find or have not received a signature “cure” form in the mail can download one at socovotes.com by selecting the “Forms” menu item on the left and then clicking on either “Unsigned Ballot Statement” or “Signature Verification Statement” under the “Vote-by-Mail Signature Issues” heading (see red boxes in screenshot below).
Once filled out and signed, there are several ways to return a signature “cure” form:
- Scan it and send it as an email attachment to ROV-UBS@Sonoma-County.org
- Fax it to 707-565-6862
- Drop it off in person at the ROV Office at 435 Fiscal Dr., Santa Rosa
- By mail (not recommended anymore since it must be received by November 30)
