Montgomery High Schools top two administrators—Principal Adam Paulson and Assistant Principal Tyler Ahlborn—have been placed on administrative leave in the wake of the March 1 fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old student, according to an email from Santa Rosa Schools Superintendent Anna Trunnell to the school community Sunday evening.

Laurie Fong, recently a trustee with Santa Rosa City Schools, resigned her position on the school board and will serve as interim principal of the school, according to the email.

The changes come as the Montgomery community still reels from the tragic incident in which a fight broke out in a science class March 1, resulting in the death of Jayden Pienta, a stabbing wound to the hand of another 16-year-old and the eventual arrest of student Daniel Pulido, 15.

Trunnell said in the message that an officer from the Santa Rosa Police Department will be on 1250 Hahman Drive campus during school hours on March 13 and 14; further needs for police presence will be considered on Tuesday. She said the goal of having the police presence was for “increased security” and to further assess safety needs “moving forward.”

Paulson has been Montgomery’s principal since 2020, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat; Ahlborn has been assistant principal since 2021.

To further bolster the school’s administrative staff in the weeks to come, Kaesa Enemark, an administrator in the district office, and Ryan Thompson, vice principal at Rincon Middle School, will join the team, Trunnell said.

The administrative moves will help the community “build the security and social emotional supports for your school,” Trunnell said in the email.
