The greatest accomplishments begin with a great vision. This is a key component in most projects, but for ZFA Structural Engineers, it is essential. Based in Northern California, the local engineering firm is dedicated to designing new and revitalized places to live, work, learn, heal and play in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.

The vision began in the 1920s with Pierre Zucco, a practicing structural engineer in Northern California. In 1974, his grandson Gregory Zucco carried on his legacy by founding Zucco Associates in Santa Rosa. In 1993, Gregory Zucco was joined by Dennis Fagent and the company became Zucco Fagent Associates. Gregory’s son, Kevin Zucco, joined that same year. Since its founding, the company has expanded throughout the region, opening offices in San Francisco, Sacramento, Silicon Valley and Napa.

Over many decades and generations of hard work and dedication, the vision remains the same. ZFA Structural Engineers delivers structural engineering solutions that are catered to each client’s unique needs and priorities. The company takes the time to understand each client’s vision, then crafts a plan to meet their goals. The firm also focuses on implementing sustainable design and construction methods and applying advanced technology to ensure that the structures will remain resilient in an ever-changing environment.

The marriage of aspiration and practicality produces a successful outcome that will impact communities for years to come. This is perhaps why ZFA Structural Engineers has been voted Best Engineering Firm for the third year in a row. Executive Principal Kevin Zucco says, “It’s humbling to be acknowledged for our hard work and contributions to the built environment in support of the communities in which we work and live. It’s an honor to be appreciated for something we take pride in doing and have a passion for, so it makes us all feel very pleased and proud of our valuable staff. We are thankful to readers for choosing us.”

ZFA Structural Engineers has worked on thousands of projects across a variety of industries including education, health care, government facilities, public art, private residences and more.

Some notable projects include Santa Rosa Junior College’s Petaluma campus, Castello di Amarosa Winery in Calistoga and the Napa County Historic Courthouse, among others.
As long as there is a vision, ZFA Structural Engineers can accomplish any project. When asked what’s on the horizon, Zucco says, “We look forward to working with emerging technologies and building materials such as mass timber, resilient seismic bracing and pre-fabrication as well as incorporating AI technology.”

Adds Zucco: “We look forward to working on projects for future generations to use, including the preservation of historic buildings, schools for educating, police and fire stations to protect citizens and homes, as well as housing, offices and hospitality projects.”
