The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors approved $3 million in additional funds for housing-focused homelessness intervention projects as part of the county’s overall goal of reducing the homeless population by 10% every year.
The funding comes from Measure O, the quarter-cent sales tax measure voters approved in 2020 to fund mental health and homelessness services. The allocations will go to six local nonprofits as well as the cities of Rohnert Park, Petaluma and Sonoma.
Twelve projects applied for the funding. Staff from the county homelessness services division and health policy, planning and equity units within the Department of Health Services reviewed and scored the applications.
Projects approved for funding include the SAVS Horizon Shine safe parking site in Sebastopol for people sheltering in RVs, SHARE Sonoma County’s shared housing project for seniors countywide, and Rohnert Park’s safe sleeping site for homeless individuals.
