For those interested in investing in a local luxury resort, the renowned MacArthur Place Hotel & Spa could be the ticket—the longtime Sonoma destination is going up for sale, according to Lat33 Capital, the Arizona-based company that owns the resort.
Lat33 purchased the hotel for $36 million in 2017 from a Sonoma-based ownership group that included locals Suzanne Brangham and Bill Blum. The resort, developed on a 5-acre property at the corner of Broadway and MacArthur streets in Sonoma, was originally a stately Victorian home and barn. Today it boasts 64 guest rooms, a spa, swimming pool, conference center and restaurant. A renovation of its guestrooms and a remodel and expansion of its Barn and Coach House was completed in 2019. In 2021, Lat33 purchased the long-vacant Sonoma Truck & Auto Center property, across the street from the hotel, for $3.75 million. The 1.86-acre parcel at 870 Broadway had sat untended for years and was regularly described as blight by vocal residents and city officials.
As part of a potential sale, Lat33 Capital seeks to retain “an active role” in the property by offering financing to the new investor, “with the intention of joining forces to complete the vision of the property-wide transformation that began in 2017.”
“Lat33 Capital is committed to identifying an investor who shares in our vision for the completion of MacArthur Place Hotel & Spa’s final renovation phase—the redevelopment of the parcel at 870 Broadway in Sonoma,” Lat33 officials said this week in an announcement of the sale. “Together with this new investor, our objective remains to successfully complete MacArthur Place’s development and finish 870 Broadway.”
