La Tortilla Factory in Sonoma County is calling it a wrap.

The longtime Santa Rosa-based tortilla company is pulling up stakes at its plant at 3300 Westwind Blvd. and relocating to Moundridge, Kansas, the factory’s parent company Flagship Food Group announced this week in a statement. “Relocating will safeguard LTF’s ability to make the best tortillas at fair prices while expanding its capacity to reach new customers and serve our existing customers,” the company said in the announcement. La Tortilla is expected to set up shop at Flagship’s Moundridge property near the company’s local-based Tortilla King factory.

The Santa Rosa facility is planned to close March 31 and the relocation to take place in April. Flagship said it has offered severance packages to 135 employees. About 130 Santa Rosa-based employees will be retained, working remotely.

Founders Jose and Mary Tamayo opened La Tortilla Factory in 1977 and over the years produced everything from corn, flour and gluten-free tortillas to spices and other products at its 75,000-square-foot facility. The Idaho-based Flagship Food Group acquired a majority stake in the company in 2021—but Flagship doesn’t own the factory property and said purchasing such a sizeable parcel in Sonoma County is cost prohibitive.
