One of the North Bay’s best-known local food companies is hanging up its aprons—Elaine Bell Catering will cease operations at the end of October. Proprietors Elaine Bell and John Merritt informed staff late last month about their plans to retire, the company said in a press release.
Over its 43 years in operation—the last 20 out of a kitchen on Technology Way in Napa—Elaine Bell had grown to be one of the best-known catering companies in the region, catering corporate functions, large community events, ceremonies and private parties. At its pre-pandemic zenith, the company catered as many as 500 events a year; more recently, annual catering events have hovered around 350. The number of employees currently at the company is reported as 164.
