Established in 1914, Ghilotti Construction epitomizes excellence in the contracting and building fields. And for the fourth year in a row, due to its expertise with roadside projects and construction, Ghilotti reigns supreme with its BEST Of Award victory.

From road repair to working on the reduction of commute times to developing hospitals and vineyards, the North Bay’s backbone is built by Ghilotti Construction.

According to U.S. Census data, there are 8,150 “super commuters” in Sonoma County, a segment of the workforce that’s grown more than 8 percent between 2005 and 2017. “Super commuters” are defined as people with commutes longer than 90 minutes. The Bay Area’s roads are dominated by work-related travel, which in turn creates a massive toll on streets and highways. It’s a problem Ghilotti Construction is trying to overcome with each highway project. Such projects include Highway 12 in American Canyon, Highway 101 Novato and Penngrove and Highway 580 in Livermore.

Ghilotti employs more than 450 well-trained employees and craftsmen, alongside a convoy of extensive equipment including excavators, forklifts, bulldozers, asphalt grinders and loaders to maintain roads while developing new projects, which stretch beyond the North Bay into the borders of California in Eureka and San Diego. Ghilotti focuses on total site preparation, underground utilities, soil stabilization, residential and commercial construction, project management and emergency response. Emergency response specifies in slide repair, fire debris removal and flood repair—services desperately needed in the North Bay.

Ghilotti has worked on many substantial projects in the area including construction on Sutter, Marin General and Kaiser Permanente hospitals. It is also responsible for the work on the Kendall Jackson reservoir, Louis Martini Winery in St. Helena and the Copia Wine Center. Currently, Ghilotti Construction Company is tackling traffic issues in Petaluma, with the crippling congestion that arrives during peak commuting hours.

While Ghilotti continues improving the roads and highways of the North Bay, it’s also improving the community. The company’s mission statement from founder James Ghilotti reads:

“Do good work. Be responsible. Take care of the community and the people who work for you.”

These words formed the foundation of Ghilotti Construction Company. The company contributes to the community in several ways, including donations of capital improvements — such as grading and paving parking lots — and the commitment of many employees’ hours to more than two dozen North Bay nonprofit organizations and causes.

“We support our employees’ local charities by donating and sponsoring their charity events,” says Richard Ghilotti, owner and president. “While education is a priority, so are children’s charities, food banks and other nonprofits that directly benefit families. When you come from a large Italian family as I do, your heart goes out to the needs of other families who are less fortunate.”

Ghilotti Construction supports other educational organizations, including The dg Foundation, Sonoma State University, Marin Catholic High School, San Domenico Grammar School, Rio Lindo Adventist Academy, Redwood Adventist Academy, Dominican University, Santa Clara University and River Montessori Foundation.

Ghilotti Construction Company is currently working full steam ahead amid the COVID-19 pandemic with its main office n Santa Rosa and other locations in Livermore, Marin, Sunnyvale, American Canyon and Ukiah.
